Costa Smeralda once again delivered for the concluding day of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and Rolex Maxi 72 World Championship, with brilliant sunshine and 10-15 knots westerly winds. The 30th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup will take place off Porto Cervo, Sardinia, from 1-7 September. For almost four decades, the event has provided an exacting test for the Maxi, the most powerful, elegant and impressive yacht class. Challenging coastal courses and a variety of conditions, including shifting winds that ranged from light to brisk, tested the tactical and boat handling skills of Bella Mente Racing at the 2019 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. The Super Maxi class for boats longer than 100ft (30.51m) has been dominated in recent years by the magnificent J Class. In 2019 Ronald de Waal’s Velsheda prevailed while the previous year it was the turn of Topaz, the 1935 vintage Frank Paine design, launched in 2015.
