The PAM 127 is a modern Panerai classic that doesn't really require an introduction. Born in 2002 as an almost identical replica of a modified 6152/1 with Angelus 240 movement, this Special Edition with an amazingly domed sapphire crystal soon developed a cult-like following. The PAM 127 even has its own nickname which is: "Fiddy".

Yes there are flaws, but like the brushed bezel markers are an easy fix for a modder. The CG is accurate, the pin is flat and polished (though mildly sunken, I'll push it back up), the lever is slightly loose, but not badly, the crown is thick and accurate. The bezel itself is mildly loose, but not badly so. This unexpected success (unexpected by the Officine, because sociologically, the market was expecting big watches), forced Panerai to normalize the 47mm, in order to remain an exclusive niche brand (the overproduction from 2008-2009 having been a semi-failure).
Panerai also added “1950” on the black time-only dial to remind people of the watch’s vintage origins. The success of the PAM 127—now affectionately known as the “Fiddy”—laid the groundwork for the following Luminor 1950 collection.
