your average person could mistake it for kouros very very easily. it’s dry down blooms into a very chanel VERY elegant dark rich chypre. Like tuxedo elegant and jungle dark. So great, such a gloriously confusing disorienting contradictory fragrance — all wonderfully so and masterfully blended.

Even after more than 40 years after the release of this monolithic perfume, I’ll easily recognize Kouros from the masses of copycats. Chanel’s Antaeus is the only perfume in a similar vein to Kouros . A civet-laden, woody, musky fougere, heavy on the jaw-clenched bitterness of artemisia, it is a unique marvel of olfactory art. Somehow both divinely clean – like a disinfecting tussle with a bonfire – and sacrilegiously filthy, it’s monolithic, recognisable and detailed.
Nosing and wearing the current I have found that Chanel Antaeus, while very good for the Contemporary palate, the Animalic used is rather flat and ultimately bitter. It is similar to the Animalic used in the latest Hermes Eau d'Hermes.
In Kouros I am more disturbed by the very strong, in-your-face floral notes than by the civet note (which is not exactly a human BO note, like the sweat note of cumin in Eau d'Hermès or Déclaration, but rather an animalic, urinous note).
